[Musaios Icon] Musaios 2002 A: Download Page

"Musaios 2002 Release A" is now available. If you are a currently registered user of Musaios, this version is offered as a free upgrade.

New users may download this version for evaluation. Please be sure you have downloaded and installed the WinGreek font (see link below) if you wish to view Greek texts. It is not required for Latin texts. After the download, Musaios will be fully functional, but will "nag" you until you register.

Download links are at the bottom of this page.

The principal improvements of Musaios 2002A over the previous version (Musaios 2001A) are:

  • There is support for a Latin Word Index feature. This works identicially to the existing TLG Word Index on Greek texts. (Note: Packard Humanities Institute does not provide Word Index files as part of CD-ROM PHI 5.3. The files are provided on the optional Musaios Concordance CD-ROM). Sample index files covering the first few thousand Latin words are provided with all installations of Musaios 2002 for evaluation
  • Concordance files are now available for ALL Greek authors on TLG-E and ALL Latin authors on PHI 5.3. For over 2,200 authors, Keyword-in-Context Concordances may be viewed instantly. The concordance files, along with the Latin Word Index described above, are available on an optional CD-ROM, which can be ordered from the Musaios E-store.
  • For the TLG Greek Word Index, the "Show Works" and "Show Texts" functions are generally much faster than before.
  • Keyboard mappings for the GreekKeys font now work correctly. Formerly, when the GreekKeys font was selected as the default Greek font, the keyboard mappings were incorrect -- i.e. the search would proceed as if the WinGreek font was the default. This problem is now fixed.
  • The "Illegal Operation" error on certain words in the TLG Word Index is now fixed. Generally these were long words beginning with vowels.
  • In Latin texts, embedded Greek text is now correctly displayed, for example, at Aulus Gellius, Noctes Atticae 4.11.12.
  • When Beta Code is selected on the Format menu, search strings when entered are now displayed in beta code rather than being mapped to the default Greek font.
  • Rarely, duplicate search results would be reported. For example, if one searched for "Aaron" in the Latin Vulgate, Exodus, 109 search results would be reported, whereas there are actually only 107 occurrences. (The two extra locations were duplicates). This problem is now fixed.

  • If you are using a version earlier than Musaios 2001A, released as a free upgrade last year, these improvements in Musaios 2001A are also carried forward into Musaios 2002:

  • In the TLG Canon Lists (accessed via the Search menu), the "Search These" button now works.
  • When you are viewing a text on TLG-E, you may see bibliographic information about the author and text. Choose the "View Bibliographic Canon Information for This Work" menu item.
  • Much more text can be exported to the Windows Clipboard, or to a file in Rich Text Format (RTF). Formerly you could only select for export the text visible on the screen. Now you can select about 100 lines. In this we have followed the lead of Pandora (software for the Macintosh). The limitation remains at this level at the request of TLG because of concerns about copyright infringement.
  • There is a new Concordance feature:

A "Concordance View" can be opened for certain authors once you have obtained the Musaios Concordance Plug-Ins. These may be downloaded from this website. (A separate registration number is required for each package of related authors. However you may download the plug-ins for evaluation before deciding to register).

Once you have installed the plug-ins, you may rapidly shift back and forth between the Concordance View and the associated text. Data from the Concordance View may be selected and copied to the Windows Clipboard or to Rich Text Files.

At this time, plug-ins are available via download for nearly all the authors on typical PhD. reading lists at U.S. Universities. Also included are Greek, Latin, and English Bible versions. A CD-ROM with concordances for all TLG-E Greek Authors and all PHI 5.3 Latin authors may also be ordered.

  • Download Instructions

When you use the download links below, your browser may give you a choice to "Run this program from its current location" or "Save this program to disk". The first option is preferable; but if you wish to save the setup program to disk, create a new empty directory (or "folder"); save to that temporary folder, and then execute SETUP.EXE in the folder. You may then delete the temporary folder and its contents.

This setup program will not overwrite your existing Musaios installation. Please allow it to install into C:\MUSAIOS (unless you are installing onto a network). That will make the installation of the Concordance Plug-Ins easier.

Please install Musaios 2002 and confirm that it is working properly before downloading the Concordance Plug-Ins. They will not work without Musaios 2002.

Those reading this are among the very first users of Musaios 2002. Your comments and criticisms are most welcome and will help the future refinement of the product. Please send E-mail to both ddumont@musaios.com and: rsmith1@rpprog.com for fastest response.
